News: Trump Toronto approved at 70 storeys

Toronto: The Donald Trump's planned hotel/condo project in downtown Toronto received final permission from the Ontario Municipal Board yesterday for a 2 storey increase. Although the tower had already been approved by City Council quite some time ago, the OMB has final say in these matters and Trump’s recent request for an additional 2 floors cast a definite, albeit dim, shadow of doubt on the project’s future.

The extra storeys were, according to the developers, added to accommodate supplementary hotel features that would ensure its proposed 5-star stature. However, suggestions of competition with rival developer Harry Stinson and his Sapphire Tower are not to be discounted either. In the end, the OMB found little to impede Trump’s venture at Bay & Adelaide streets, noting "if there is an area where skyscrapers with wondrous architecture are to be showcased, this area is pre-eminently suitable."
